About Us
Annie Graham is a costumiere who has been working in the industry since 1985 but began her construction training at the age of 4, a few years prior. She works in all aspects of the industry – film, television, theatre, musical theatre, one offs for performers and is a well experienced technician, designer and problem solver.
The Useful Company was set up when Annie saw the need in the market place for a better product for performers wearing microphone transmitters. Initially making the old school cloth belts for a local sound company, she quickly saw the need for a better belt. Working in live children’s T.V. was the perfect place to start trialling these. After a couple of different models, and trials, The Useful Company are launching its flagship product – The Mic Belt.
Our Product
The Mic Belt is made of neoprene that has had Velcro compatible fabric bonded to both sides.
Other belts only have it on one side which means that they aren’t as secure and have one end in danger of flopping down. Our belts, with the fabric on both sides, then has 2 velcro ends, giving 2 points of contact and making them super secure. They also have a strap of one-wrap connected to the transmitter pocket to keep your expensive kit safe and secure.
Making the belt double sided has also meant that you get a choice of colours to wear – beige or black. Other belts, you’d have to buy one of each. The Useful Company Mic Belt is therefore great value and very versatile.
Initially I made these myself but as demand has increased I’m using local Christchurch seasoned manufacturers Albion Clothing. Custom orders are possible – often with fast turnaround times, as I understand the nature of the industry.

If your budget is tight, I still make the old school cloth belts but all my customers prefer the neoprene for comfort and security.

I make these belts myself and have the fabric specially made in Asia. I can therefore custom-make anything you need.
